What is the purpose of human life? What a loaded question that we humans have been asking for a long, long time. Could it be something really simple, or is it so deep that we will continue to ponder this for eternity?
A few years ago, in 2014, I came across a story about a group of 500 people who attended a seminar. As the story goes, while in the middle of the seminar, suddenly the speaker just stopped what he was talking about, and decided to do a group activity with everyone. He started handing out, to each person, an orange balloon. Each person was then asked to write their name on the balloon using a magic marker. Then, all of the balloons were collected and put into another room.
After all the balloons were collected, they eventually let everyone into the room and they were then asked to find the balloon which had their name written on it… and they were only give 5 minutes to do so. Everyone went crazy, running around the room, as they were frantically searching for their name, colliding with each other, pushing around others and there was literally utter chaos throughout the room.
At the end of 5 minutes, no one could find their own balloon.
Then, after everyone had calmed down, the speaker asked each person to randomly collect a balloon, look at the name, and give it to the person whose name was written on it. Within just a few minutes, everyone actually had their own balloon.
The speaker then began, “If you look around, this is happening in our lives. Everyone is running around, frantically looking for happiness everywhere, not knowing where it is, and never finding it.
He continued, “You see, our happiness lies in the happiness of other people. Find others, and give them their happiness and, believe it or not, you will get your own happiness. And this truly is the purpose of human life…the pursuit of happiness, and giving it to others.”
Spread the word, and share this beautiful message with the world!
