Unless you’ve been living under a rock lately, (sadly, many people are), then you’ve probably been hearing a lot of talk about this “power of the mind” thing. People are literally coming out of the woodworks saying that these ideas have helped them to shape their happy and successful lives. What’s fascinating to me though, is how there are just as many other people who are skeptical and doubtful that the power of positive thinking can have much of any effect at all on big issues, like landing the right job or finding Mr. or Mrs. Right, etc.
So, the question I have for you is, have you heard of it yet? Have you heard of “it”? Most likely you have, but do you actually even know what it is… and if you are part of the small majority that actually knows what it is, do you know how it works, I mean, do you really know how it works? Better yet, do you know how ‘you’ work with it?
What am I even talking about here, anyway?
I’m only talking about the most powerful Law in the Universe… That’s right, I’m talking about “The law of attraction,” and guess what, it’s nothing new. In fact, the law of attraction has been around and in use since the dawn of humanity. So what kind of new things can you learn about some ancient method of self-help? Well, a lot actually.
In the coming blogs ahead, I plan on introducing you to the most basic elements of this universal law and put you on the right track to begin asking the universe for all that you desire!
WAIT! Before we get to far into all of this, let’s slow down, and let’s take a step back. Who actually started the law of attraction? I mean, where on Earth did this idea even come from? Is it even an Idea? What the heck is it, anyway?
The law of attraction isn’t some theory, or some nice idea that some trendy Lululemon wearing L.A. guru dreamed up a few years back in some yoga studio, nope… it’s something that’s been used for centuries upon centuries.
To really understand why a lot of your friends, peers, and perhaps even some of your family members have been diving headfirst into these teachings, you’ll need to understand where they come from. I mean let’s be real here, if want to use the universal law of attraction to your benefit, you must have a solid understanding of this principle.
I know, I know, you want to get to the point of this blog series, but as with anything that is worthwhile, you must first learn the basics of how all of this works. This first blog series will give you an overview of where the law of attraction has been, where it’s going, and what it can do for you. My intention, if you desire, is for this blog to help everything else make sense, and to make your journey to understanding all of this Universal knowledge a lot more logical.
Why don’t we finally go ahead and get to it… let’s start with the def·i·ni·tion. The law of attraction describes the flow of energy between each person and the universe. Positive thoughts, attitudes, and feelings draw positive energy from the universe, while negative beliefs, thoughts, and feelings vibrate to attract negative results. Simply put, “like attracts like.”
That’s right, we are all made up of energy, and, in case you were asleep in science class like I was, energy can never be destroyed, only changed. Guess what is also energy, yup, our thoughts. Some experts in the law of attraction will compare your thoughts to the way electrons behave around the nucleus of an atom. (Don’t worry, like I said, I slept through science class, so this discussion will be pretty light and easy.)
Ok, so maybe I have learned a few things over the years… let me try to explain without putting you to sleep like my science teacher did to me. Matter is made of atoms, so all matter also contains electrons. Every atom has a certain number of electrons, which rotate around the nucleus of the atom. Long story short: the electrons can vibrate at a higher level if more energy (say, heat) is added to the atom. With enough energy, the atoms will line up and the electrons will produce a “pulling” effect—moving the atoms.
Anyway, as science teaches us, because we are all made of atoms, high energy (positive energy, that is) can produce similar results, where our thoughts transmit energy outside of ourselves. And where does it go? Out to the universe, which is, lets just say, full of a lot of energy, and it sends back the same sort of energy we sent out in the first place. This is why attitudes and events tend to be reinforced… it’s because they come right back to us. If you believe something bad is going to happen at work tomorrow, for example, it probably will; on the other hand, if you expect to have a great day in the office, you probably won’t be disappointed!
So is the law of attraction a scientific or spiritual practice? Some say it’s both. If subscribing to the theory that we’re all energy isn’t enough; you also have to have faith that your intent can bring good things into your life.
Alright, that was a lot of information. I think that fried everyones brain. Maybe that’s enough for one day.
When I was learning all of this, and when I got to this point… and when I started to “get it,” the next thing that was shaking my curiosity, was… where did all of these ideas come from, anyway?
STAY TUNED! The next part of this blog series will hopefully answer your questions, and more!
I love you all,
Ryan C. Brown
